Not a Best of 2008 part one

Greetings and thanks for being involved this past year! Please keep coming back to listen and to recommend tracks in 2009!!

All songs this week are from bands that shined this past year. It is in no way intended to be a "best of" for the year.

Here's a direct shot to download the PODcast: http://forthazel.com/millions.mp3

Department of Eagles - "In Ear Park" from the album In Ear Park
the Silver Jews - "My Pillow is a Threshold" from the album Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea
Crystal Antlers - "A Thousand Eyes" from the self-titled EP
NightWounds - "Ghana" from the Nail in the Coffin split LP with AIDS Wolf
Landed - "Times I Despise" from the album How Little Will it Take
Tim and Eric - "Cops and Robbers" from the collection of songs off of "Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job!"
Thomas Function - "Lights Down Low" from the album Celebration
Dead Western - "My Old Home" from the album Soften Your Screams Into Sings
Chad VanGaalen - "City of Electric Light" from the album Soft Airplane
Parenthetical Girls - "Song for Ellie Greenwich" from the album Entanglements
Fleet Foxes - "Mykonos" from the EP Sun Giant
Crystal Stilts - "Converging in the Quiet" from the self-titled LP
Sic Alps - "Mater" from the album U.S. Ez
Sparks - "Operation" from the album Exotic Creatures of the Deep
Abe Vigoda - "Endless Sleepers" from the album Skeleton
AIDS Wolf - "Now Yr Gonna Lose It" from the Nail in the Coffin split LP with NightWounds

Also great this year were incredible albums by Deerhunter, Lowbelly, Torche, Two Prong, Panther, Valet, Ratatat, Dan Friel, Radiohead, Pattern is Movement, Pyramids, Parts and Labor, the OhSees, No Age, Dr. Dog, Dan Giberman, the Mayyors, Jay Reatard, etc. It would have been foolish of me to attempt a truly "best of" for this past year. It reminds me of the theory that the quality of art and artists thrive during times of oppression and war. While many of us may not have felt oppressed, we have had some policies in place that may have encouraged some great art!! Thank you to the exiting administration for all of the good music that you helped to inspire by pissing many people off!! If there's any truth to the theory that art and government are inversely related, I hope the next eight years suck for music and art.

Love,
Jeremy

mykonos was also probably the only song i liked off of sun giant, but it's probably the best song i've heard in the last year

also-- AIDS Wolf is the best thing i could have possibly heard before 1 in the afternnon on a sunday. it made me strap on my brass knuckles and get ready for the malt liquor contest
